In a time when the need to transcend borders has reached unparalleled importance, we can think of no better way to celebrate this, our fourth revolution around the sun, than by inviting two masters of the craft from afar to come play here for the first time.

With a career spanning over three decades, Takaaki Itoh is one of Japanese techno’s truest believers. Having been inspired early on by luminaries such Jeff Mills, Derrick May, and Underground Resistance, he began his current journey by throwing some of the most respected underground parties of the mid-90s in his home of Northern Japan. Flash forward 20 years and he is at the top of his game, having honed his signature style to the point where he can deliver heavily layered mixes with blinding precision. In the process, he’s graced some of the world’s biggest institutions, including Berghain, Tresor, and Corsica Studios, as well as revered international festivals such as Awakenings and Rural. Needless to say, we are honored to welcome him to the states for his very first visit.

As the techno scene in Japan has continued to spark renewed interest over the past few years, Iori has been quickly recognized as one of the most talented young producers to emerge from the current wave. Hailing from Okinawa, the now-Tokyo-based producer actually cut his teeth here in New York as an assistant for David Mancuso’s revered party, The Loft, where he fostered a meticulous sonic mentality from his audiophile mentor. This permeates his carefully-handled arrangements, which have landed on well established imprints such as Semantica and Prologue, as well as DJ Nobu’s Bitta label. Citing seminal acts such as Depeche Mode, Manuel Göttsching, Moritz Von Oswald, and Basic Channel as early influences, it’s no wonder that mood and atmosphere have become the hallmark of his deep, otherworldly productions. Simply put, he is an expert practitioner of the highest order, and we eagerly await this opportunity for him to come expand our horizons.

Ever influenced by the nuances of Japanese culture, The Long Count Cycle will be on hand as well to provide opening duties for this special evening. Joining us in the Bad Room will be our good friends and long time collaborators, Lost Soul Enterprises, who are preparing a mini-showcase of the label's many talents.
