An interview with Ida Engberg... by Fiona Walsh

Ida Engberg

For music lovers everywhere, Detroit is known as the birth place of techno and so it’s fitting that 2010 sees a return of one of the biggest techno fests in the U.S: Movement Festival. Now celebrating its 10 year anniversary, the Festival will take place over the last weekend in May (29-31). Movement Festival has a superlative line up of electronic artists from all over the world who come to play and honor the city where it all first began. Touted as the THE festival not to miss by Resident Advisor, this years event is sponsored by Ford Fiesta (fitting given the city’s history with the motor vehicle industry) and produced by Paxahau Event Productions. This is the fifth year that Paxahau have produced the festival and it promises to be a great one.

The line up includes Juan Atkins (a founding father of techno) as well as Richie Hawtin’s live Plastikman performance, practically a pilgrimage event for anyone who lives and breathes techno.

The line up is comprehensive but some of the top ones to look out for are Agoria, Ida Engberg, Derrick Carter, Josh Wink, Radio Slave, Inner City, Chris Liebing, Booka Shade and most recently added, Ricardo Villalobos. This looks like it will be one of Villalobos’ only US appearances this year, a rare treat.

Stretched over the weekend and 5 stages all taking place in downtown Detroit, the festival looks set to deliver a wonderful weekend of music and coming in a really low price point of $55.00 for a weekend pass – not to be missed.
