Gar : Tell us a bit about your musical background, how did you get into music production?

Nathan : There's not much to speak of really, just a desire to make my own tunes after listening to stuff like orbital, aphex twin etc etc. saved up and bought some gear, when I was 15-16.

Gar : Interestingly, your myspace page lists band members as a Boss DR 550 (Mk2), Cool Edit software and a Casio SA-20. All reasonably priced bits of kit and easily accessible to anyone who thought they might like to give production a try. Do you still use this kit or have you upgrade to something more serious?

Nathan : Well I mean that’s not my core studio. I use computer software and stuff to sequence everything but I do still use the drum machine and I like recording the crap sounds on the little keyboard.

Gar : Describe the process of creating a Nathan Fake track. Where do you start?

Nathan : just an idea in my head or something I guess.... there’s no formula to doing it, you just sort of do it.

Gar : Your debut Album, "Drowning in a Sea of Love" released in 2006 after a string of successful EP's and remixes, received some great reviews... how does it feel to have your music played by some "superstar" DJ's?

Nathan : yeah its pretty cool, I’m not so bothered about stuff like DJ's playing my tunes. most "superstar" DJ’s seem to play really awful music so...... if Brian Wilson told me I write great melodies then that'd mean a lot more.

Gar : What was the last CD you bought and the last gig you went to?

Nathan : umm... I bought Fennesz's new album which is very nice. the last gig I saw was squarepusher in gent, Belgium, a couple of weeks ago.

Gar : Your playing in The Twisted Pepper on the 13th of December, what can the crowd expect to here?

Nathan : the set is kind of ravey, some new stuff and some old stuff.

Gar : So, the future! A new album maybe?

Nathan : yes there'll be something out next year.
