Beguiling, bewitching, bewildering; Guy Gerber is a man of many talents and tropes, not least his inimitable ability to walk a musical line that seamlessly encompasses melancholy and euphoria.

The Israeli DJ and producer today announced a new exclusive residency at MARQUEE New York. The first show of his quarterly residency will feature Gerber playing an extended set with no opening or closing DJs.

In classic Gerber fashion nothing will be straightforward or predictable with themes and production changing for each show. The theme for the opening night party on Friday, April 18, is sure to surprise.

Whether it was turning in a revered fabric mix CD inspired by a break-up, challenging Diddy to work with him on the mysterious underground dance project ’11-11’ or imbuing dancefloors with a real sense of emotion at a time when commercialism seems to be the dominant driving force, traversing a path as an outlier is one Gerber seems most comfortable walking.

Last season in Ibiza Gerber took on the challenge of inverting the bland commercial-orientated direction of EDM, bringing the likes of Nicolas Jaar, Benoit & Sergio, Chromatics, John Talabot, Four Tet and more to Pacha, during his summer long residency. Disruptive, dark and definitely divisive, Gerber’s Wisdom Of the Glove residency became a summer long talking point that even the New York Times picked up on.

Since the Ibiza season finished Gerber turned in one of the best-received Essential Mixes of 2013, been confirmed for Coachella 2014, was named Resident Advisor’s #4 live act in the world, been busy in the studio on ’11-11’ and found time to launch his new project, Rumors. Like any good rumor, facts are scarce on his new label, all that has been confirmed thus far is that the first release will see Gerber collaborate with his comrade-in-arms, Dixon.
