LED & Earth Island Institutes International Marine Mammal Project

Team Up To...

HELP NERVO FREE THE SEA!!!

From songwriters to artists and super-fans to superstars, electronic dance music’s first sisters – Mim and Liv Nervo of NERVO – have staged an impressive climb onto the  international stage, straight from the pit in front of it. Whether touring the world and  thrilling thousands with their massive DJ sets, or teaming up with the likes of David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Kylie Minogue and countless others to bring dynamic new music to the masses, the NERVO sisters exude infectious energy, with a deep love and understanding for the music.

Now in a distinctively different undertaking, yet inherently rooted with their love of animals, NERVO are teaming up with LED presents and the International Marine Mammal Project to help raise awareness about why dolphins and whales deserve the right to protection and free lives in the wild. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go directly to protecting dolphins, orcas and other marine mammals in multiple local and global initiatives.

San Diego, located on the Pacific, made an obvious location for a fundraiser unlike any other, and long-time NERVO fans and marine mammal lovers LED, were the perfect partners to make this event a reality.

On March 19th at Fluxx, NERVO will be joined by Chris Lake (head honcho of the Rising label/crew), prolific producer Michael Woods and house music pioneer Funkagenda to host the FREE THE SEA benefit, donating all proceeds from the event to IMMP.

Featuring an impressive line-up of incredible music, a commendably worthy cause and an exciting list of auction items, this night will surely be an unforgettable experience. Please tell a friend, donate yourself, or bid on an oversized inflatable Orca. 100% of the proceeds will go to charity and every cent counts as we try to further the cause of protecting all marine mammals across the globe.

Moogfest is April 23-27 in Asheville, North Carolina.
ASHEVILLE, NC – January 29, 2014 – With over 20 years of history under their belt, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s Pet Shop Boys have sold more than 50 million records worldwide and are six-timeGrammy nominees, recognized as the most successful duo in UK music history by The Guinness Book of Records. Collaborating with theatre directors, architects, set and costume designers, Pet Shop Boys have built their performances into a technologically immersive and visually theatrical experience. With their celebrated history of striking and original tour productions, this year’s Moogfest performance promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

M.I.A. is renowned for her presentation of layered textures of instruments, electronics and unusual sound samples that shaped her acclaimed and distinctive avant-garde music style. From the beginning her music was always an explosion of color, light, and heat as she fearlessly incorporates a range of political, social, philosophical and cultural references into her music, combining her Sri Lankan roots with her urban present to create music that defies existing pop music conventions.

Flying Lotus is an expert at weaving together different worlds and styles to create music that defies genre classification. On his latest record, Until The Quiet Comes, Flying Lotus draws from hip hop, electronic music, and rock, to position himself in the center of a musical web that stretches far from the vibrant sprawl of his base in Los Angeles.

A pioneer in the moombahton genre, Dillon Francis lives between 105 and 112 BPM. An open format DJ, he sees no delineation between making music and playing it. Francis boasts releases on Diplo's Mad Decent, Fool's Gold, and Skrillex's OWSLA, some of the most respected labels in electronic music.

The newly added nighttime programming speaks to Moogfest’s focus on innovation and breaking down barriers. German heavyweight trio Moderat, comprised of Modeselektor and Apparat, bring a passionate and enthusiastic approach to electronic music, while Ghostly’s Audion is the outlet for pop-music innovator Matthew Dear to exorcise his dance floor demons. Machinedrum will be performing his celebrated album Vapor City, where each of the songs leads you down a dark and twisting trail through different districts in a city of his own imagination. DFA’s UK-based Factory Floor will deliver one of their signature pummeling and exhilarating performances, and Black Dice, alumni of DFA themselves, bring their own brand of concise and concentrated catharsis to the mix.

Other Moogfest 2014 talent announced includes Tiga, the Sex Whiz of Sonic Parkour, RVNG Intl’s Holly HerndonEjecta, the Driftless Recordings project of Joel Ford and Neon Indian's Leanne Macomber, No. 19’s Louie Fresco, and Eric Volta of Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird Records.

The Windish Agency also joins the company of the nightly music showcase curators that includes experimental Record Labels Warp RecordsDFAFool's GoldGhostly InternationalNo. 19 Music’s Social ExperimentRVNG Intl., and Driftless Recordings. Plus Electronic Tastemakers Crew Love, Brooklyn-based Cultural Organization AFROPUNKDetroit’s Movement Festival, North Carolina'sHopscotch Festival, and Austin’s Switched On.

Joining Laurie Anderson and Giorgio Moroder as artists that bridge both the nightly music and daytime dialogue about music, technology and the future include Claire Evans, performing with YACHT and presenting the rebooted science magazine OMNI; Baltimore boundary pushing composer Dan Deacon; and LCD Soundsystem’s Gavin Russom performing with his band The Crystal Ark.

Three immersive, improvisational performances lasting up to four hours will be staged during Moogfest’s daytime program include Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner and Deerhunter's Bradford Cox on Moog pedals, LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Russom on Moog synths, and Dan Deacon on Moog hardware and software, each with visuals by ex-Black Dice/Lightning Bolt member Hisham Bharoocha.

Among the artists, designers, inventors and futurists added to Moogfest’s daytime program is David X. Cohen, creator and Executive Producer of Futurama discussing the elaborate math and science secrets that mysteriously appear throughout the shows.

RUI DA SILVA RETURNS TO U.S. DANCE MUSIC SCENE WITH “SUNRISE” FT WESLEY STEED (KISMET RECORDS) MARCH 17TH

New York, NY (February 6th, 2014) – Rui Da Silva is back. The progressive-house producer (and DJ) behind the worldwide pop and dance hit from 2000, “Touch Me” featuring Cassandra, is back with eyes and ears set on the U.S.’s explosive electronic dance music (EDM) scene. Da Silva releases “Sunrise” featuring Wesley Steed on Kismet Records on March 17th, 2014.

Da Silva returns to the studio – after taking three years off to raise a family and live in Ibiza, Spain – with a renewed focus on pushing the boundaries of dance music. He certainly knows how to craft a track to make bodies move; “Touch Me” achieved the “#1” chart position in several countries including the UK, Portugal and Greece shortly after its release. In addition to critical and commercial success as a solo artist, Da Silva was also part of the esoteric dance music duo, Underground Sound of Lisbon, which had immense influence on the underground dance music scene with “So Get Up” in 1994. To Da Silva, the current incarnation of EDM in the U.S. is both intriguing and promising. There is a lot riding on “Sunrise” as the original production Da Silva chose to re-enter the U.S. market, and it’s no wonder the track explodes with the sonic fury of pent-up determination. Working on “Sunrise,” Da Silva reignited his desire to produce high-quality dance music. Several follow-up singles are already in the works.

Four edits of “Sunrise” will be released: the Radio Edit, Extended Mix, Instrumental Mix and Missing Beats Remix.

The Radio Edit comes as a breath of fresh air in a sea of similar-sounding club tunes. From the beginning, the listener is captivated by the vocals of Wesley Steed alongside heartwarming melodies. Decorated with gorgeous trails of high-notes, punchy riffs build the intensity of the track into a commercial-sounding single sure to become a massive hit this summer.

The Extended Mix features additional vocal breakdowns that seamlessly build to fueled progressive melodies and festival-ready drops. This pop-house anthem delivers poetic lyrics of love and togetherness fused with a pounding bassline. Versatile in nature, this edit possesses the capability of fitting into a variety of different DJ sets across genres. Nevertheless, the Extended Mix is perhaps geared best for the nightclub circuit.

The Instrumental Mix transports the listener on a musical journey, allowing each individual to deduce his or her own interpretations of the song. With gorgeous piano riffs and excitement in every beat, Da Silva serves up this refreshing version replete with a distinct sounding production.

The Missing Beats Remix is a downtempo delight, delving in a deeper direction than the other mixes. This edit encompasses an underground feeling with its dark, beating bassline. With an unmistakable afterhours vibe, this edit teases the original melody of the song only slightly while creating ominous layers of techno, deep-house and progressive, all into one unforgettable remix.

Said Da Silva, “After so many years in the business, I’m in a position to help people and develop new talent. I started producing before I began DJing, whereas now, you’ll find DJs want to become producers. For me, producing will always come first. I see DJing as a platform for sharing my work with a live audience. That thrill brings the music full-circle, to me.”

For Rui Da Silva, the time is once again, now.

STEVE RACHMAD TO PLAY HIS FIRST 10-HOUR SET DURING THE FIRST EDITION OF KEEP IT SIMPLE. AT STUDIO 80

On Saturday, February 15th, Studio 80 is the home to yet another premiere. Dutch techno legend Steve Rachmad will play during the first edition of keep it simple. What makes it even more extraordinary is that he will be playing for 10 hours. This is something special, as he never played such a marathon set before.

Nina Kraviz - Ghetto Kraviz (Steve Rachmad's Jack Mix)

For over 25 years, Steve Rachmad is one of the top DJ’s of The Netherlands and abroad. Music is in his genes and therefore it’s no surprise that from a very young age, he was caught by genres such as R&B and disco and later on electro. By delivering newspapers Steve financed his first ever drum computer, the legendary Roland TR-808. Soon after he started producing and playing records: the rest is history. In 1995 the album The Secret Live of Machines was released under his moniker Sterac. Many releases followed on labels such as Rejected, 100% Pure, Get Physical as well as many successful remixes for artists like Joel Mull and Nina Kraviz. Even though Amsterdam based DJ has been active for many years and played hundreds of gigs over the entire world, his sound still remains spot-on. As a DJ, he is constantly looking to reinvent himself and he makes sure he combines the best that house and techno has to offer with disco and electro from the past.

Being the Dutch homebase of Steve Rachmad, Amsterdam based club Studio 80 is the ideal spot for his first ever 10-hour set. The club previously hosted his legendary birthday party’s, for which Steve invited none other than Ricardo Villalobos, Josh Wink and Joel Mull to join him in the booth. Panoramabar-resident Cassy also found a spot in her busy schedule to play next to Steve Rachmad at Studio 80. By taking a look at Steve’s musical history, you can expect him to take you from 80s disco and house classics to techno on February 15th. But you never know for sure… Maybe the Dutch grandmaster is planning on something completely different!

Tom Trago's Boiler Room DJ set

In the back room of Studio 80, Tom Trago will play all night as well. His third studio album The Light Fantastic, which was released at the end of last year, was praised by both music lovers and –critics. If you know Tom Trago a little bit, you know he always puts his heart and soul into his music. On February 15th, the Amsterdam based DJ will get plenty of time for his set and we expect him to also explore the other sides of the musical spectrum besides house and techno. The Amsterdam based DJ will get plenty of time for his set and we expect him to also explore the other sides of the musical spectrum besides house and techno.

Two exceptional artists, who both made musical quality their top priority. It suits perfectly to Steve Rachmad’s new concept keep it simple. keep it simple. is not necessarily meant as basic or simple as such. Rather, it is about simple pleasures in life: straightforward, true, inspirational. Steve Rachmad himself carefully selects the artists, who will get freedom to play what they feel like playing.

Tickets for this special night are for sale at www.studio-80.nl/tickets

"[Pacha] makes one of its occasional forays into real-deal techno, with Swedish vet Adam Beyer, top beatmaster of the Drumcode label, laying down his steely and hypnotically driving rhythms in an all-night, ten-hour set." - Time Out New York
Adam Beyer has emerged as a figure head of the hugely prolific Swedish techno scene since releasing his first track back in 1994. After over twenty years, Beyer has now firmly established his position as a globally recognized DJ and producer, and head honcho of his highly acclaimed record label, Drumcode Records and its various sub-labels. Beyer kicked off 2014 with a b2b DJ set with Ida Engberg at Richie Hawtin's ENTER.Night party, along with the Drumcode Showcasedebut at The BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen, Mexico with performances alongside Ida Engberg, Joseph Capriati, Alan Fitzpatrick, and Tom Peters, which is now available on-demand at Be-At.TV. Continuing through Los Angeles, Philadelphia  Miami, Austin, Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, Washington DC, and Denver, he will continue his North American tour up though March. Be on the look out for news and dates during Miami Music Week 2014.

Unceasingly churning out hit after hit, Beyer's latest work comes in the form of a gigantic remix of Tiga VS Audion's "Let's Go Dancing" for Turbo Recordings, the first thing he's done for the Canadian label since his 'Stockholm Mix Sessions CD' back in 2002. Due out on vinyl January 27 and digitally worldwide on February 10, the energy swells and builds without ever breaking down completely.

Listeners to Beyer's highly successful Drumcode Radio Show are fully aware of his comprehensive array of gigs he’s been playing across the world, as the show features exclusive live performances, cutting edge studio mixes, artist profiles and previews of exciting material on the label. Drumcode has been at the cutting edge of club music with popular releases over the past year including "Believe" by Nicole Moudaber and Adam Beyer, "Self Portrait" by Joseph Capriati and "The Tetra" by Alan Fitzpatrick. According to Data Transmissions, Beyer has developed an "impressive versatility; while many might still remember him for the uncompromising hard techno from which he built his name throughout the 90s, nowadays he’s equally adept at taking things deep, or even settling into a polished tech house groove if the occasion so calls for it."

Drumcode continues to release superb tracks that keep delivering the high quality expected from this prestigious label from artists such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Joseph Capriati, Gregor Tresher, Luigi Madonna, Ida Engberg, Joel Mull, Sam Paganini, Ben Sims and Beyer himself. Harvey McKay will roll out his EP for Drumcode entitled 'The Illusion Of Control' featuring title tracks "Silk Road," "Slip," and "Start Running" on February 10, now available for preview.

Innovative musicians added to Moogfest’s diverse conference program include Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist and master pedal manipulator Nick Zinner, and Bradford Cox, leader of avant garage band Deerhunter. Zinner, Cox, Russom and Deacon will create immersive, improvisatory sound installations exclusively on Moog hardware and software and lasting up to four hours each, with visuals provided by ex-Black Dice/Lightning Bolt member Hisham Bharoocha.

Among the cultural and technological luminaries added to Moogfest’s daytime program is David X. Cohen, creator and Executive Producer of Futurama and writer for The Simpsons who boasts a B.A. in physics from Harvard and an M.S. in computer science from Berkeley. Fellow writers from Futurama and The Simpsons join Cohen to explore and elaborate upon countless math and science secrets that mysteriously appear throughout these shows.

Also hosting a discussion will be six of Google's most creative minds, including visual artist and Creative Director of Google Data Arts Team Aaron Koblin, known for his work with Arcade Fire and The Johnny Cash Project. Additional highlights include Willo Perron, stage designer for Kayne West, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Drake, Lady Gaga and more; Drew Blanke aka Dr. Blankenstein, mad scientist of analog synthesizers and atari punks; Jay Silver, founder of Makey Makey, hacker and inventor Tom ZimmermanKill Screen videogames founder Jamin Warren; human cyborg Neil Harbisson who hears colors through their frequencies; astrophysicist William Kurth who records the sounds of space, and many more.
