Scion A/V announces the release of a new five-track EP from Los Angeles dubstep producer/DJ 12th Planet calledScion A/V Presents: The End Is Near. The release will be available as a free download at www.scionav.com beginning on January 18th. In support of the release, Scion A/V will present 12th Planet’s 28-city, North American tour to kick off on February 2nd in Miami, FL. A music video will soon follow.

Named one of bass music’s foremost purveyors in Billboard’s Year In Music issue, 12th Planet dominated 2011 with a sold-out, 50-date North American tour alongside Skrillex, released the ‘Who Are We?’ EP on his influential dubstep label SMOG, which just celebrated their 5-year anniversary, and co-produced a track on Korn’s latest foray into dubstep. With his star rising internationally, 12th Planet was also dubbed “US dubstep godfather” by UK’s dance music bible Mixmag, as he’s emerged as an ambassador of the now fully established American dubstep movement.

“Scion A/V has been working in the dubstep genre for over 2 years, and has helped to bring it to the masses,” says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotions for Scion. “We are proud to support 12th Planet's cultural rise, as he not only represents the exuberance of youth dubstep culture, but exemplifies all the things that came before it and are moving ahead with it.”

12th Planet, born John Dadzie, is an electronic music veteran who spent seven years touring the world as drum-n-bass maestro Infiltrata. In 2005, inspired by the burgeoning dubstep sound developing in the UK, John decided to push his own interpretation. Since then, he has lent his signature crushing bass and resonating energy to remixes for MIA, John Legend, Travis Barker and more, worked on Korn's track “Way Too Far” with production partner Flinch, and has collaborations coming out with Dizzee Rascal, among others.

Britain's most popular DJ/producer collective, Above & Beyond are embarking on an epic 20 date bus tour from mid-January, the first of two legs of their 2012 Group Therapy North America Tour.
Kicking off at LAVO Las Vegas on Tuesday January 17th, the tour will see Above & Beyond visit several American and Canadian cities for the very first time, as well as kicking off their 2012 residency at Marquee Las Vegas on January 21st. The first leg of 'Group Therapy North America' will involve shows in Hartford, Syracuse, Waterloo, London (Ontario) and Norfolk, as well as more familiar stopovers in major cities like Montreal, Boston, Minneapolis and San Diego. The first of two Fluxx shows in San Diego has already sold out and Beta in Waterloo, Canada, sold out in just 12 hours.
Centered around their critically acclaimed second artist album Group Therapy"the biggest artist album of the year" according to UK dance music bible Mixmag, which features Billboard dance chart hits like "Sun & Moon" and "Thing Called Love", Above & Beyond's Group Therapy show takes the DJ set up into the realm of concert theatre - with emotive visuals telling the tale of the tracks being played and live video messaging from the band adding to the story-telling theme.  Also featuring previously unheard and exclusive club mixes of the tracks on the album, the Group Therapy tour will be a unique dancefloor experience for Above & Beyond's legion of North American fans.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now and it's advisable to be quick as demand for Above & Beyond gigs normally runs high - the band sold out two Hollywood Palladium shows in a record 24 hours earlier this year. Part Two of the Group Therapy North America Tour will take place in May & June 2012.

Dance Music icon David Morales announces the release of his new single, “Holiday,” out now on Ultra Music. Featuring songwriting and vocal contributions from Polina and a replay of the drum parts used in the 1992 Robert Owens classic “I'll Be Your Friend,” “Holiday” is a return to the classic David Morales sound.

“It's ironic how things happen,” Morales says. “Holiday was the last song that I added to the album. It was originally just a drum track with a synth line that I passed on to Polina to see if she liked it and could write something to it. Not only did I like the song but I also liked how she sang it. Holiday wasn't even supposed to be my next single but after playing it out in my sets the response has been overwhelming…and what a better song to put out for the holidays!?”

To celebrate the release of “Holiday,” David Morales is offering a spectacular gift to dance music fans – a free download of a classic set recorded live at Yellow Night Club Tokyo in June 2004. Tokyo has long been one of David Morales’ favorite cities to perform for their open mind and willingness to allow DJs to play whatever they choose and for extremely long periods of time. This is the DJ taking the club on a journey into the unknown with a fabulous result. Download the free DJ mix here

Four Tet has posted their track "Moma" from We Are The Works in Progress, the benefit album for Japan organized by Blonde Redhead. It's out on January 10th digitally and on vinyl.

You can preorder the vinyl here: https://sakistore.net/mailorder/product_info.php?products_id=42699

WE ARE THE WORKS IN PROGRESS is a 14-song benefit album to support Japan and it’s ongoing efforts to heal post-tsunami. Born in Kyoto Japan, Kazu Makino wanted to help her homeland and turned to her friends and colleagues to ask that they donate tracks for the album. The response was unbelievable, and Kazu has collected an amazingly cohesive group of songs.

The album is the first release on the Asa Wa Kuru label, which Blonde Redhead created together for this album. It is Japanese for “Morning Will Come”.

Proceeds from the album will initially go to Japan Society and Architecture For Humanity, and more will be added. It’s important to Kazu to add additional charities as the situation keeps developing and worsening, and people’s needs keep changing. Her hope is that they can work with agencies that also help changing the way we live and think and help us become less reliant on nuclear power.

Kazu writes: This album contains exclusive material by artists that I admire. It took a while to make it this way, but it was worth the wait. We wanted it to be something special - something you don't normally put on and album, and therefore many of these tracks are works in progress….hence the name. They are ideas that we became very attached to...versions of music that aren't right for release, but ones that we love. Unfinished things often carry more energy….the possibility of it eventually becoming something great is infinite without having to be quite yet. I’ve noticed that each songs relates to one another. Like my friend Scott Mou said, “it sounds like each song is passing a baton to the next one”. I feel the same way.”

Having introduced Puresque in November with the exceptional Vor Leitmotiv EP and premiere 'Im Keller' party - litterally 'in the basement', Tresor Records launch into 2012 with the duo’s first long player in this rejuvenated and forward-thinking phase of the label.

On meeting in 2010, with Michael Kunz (Mocca) initially approaching Paul Brtschitsch for production assistance, it was in the studio working on a track of Michael’s that their arrangement soon blossomed into a partnership - one transcending two generations of electronic music, united by experimentation and grounded in a fiercely analogue philosophy of sound. Though admittedly entered into with no end-goal in sight, the Puresque project developed over the course of a year with no stylistic loyalties, but rather a focus on creating music with warmth and suspense. A richly textured; rough and yet soulful breed of techno emerged to become Puresque’s sonic signature.

As DJs, mindful of their audience and discontent with the current Berlin club scene - where both are based, they first approached Tresor simply with a party proposal. Coupled with an eight-track demo of theirs - “just to show them the sound concept”, as Paul reflects - Puresque were cordially welcomed into the family, as new residents and roster artists. Leitmotiv is the result, representing an assemblage of meticulously analogue-crafted and club-tested works from the pair that transmits all the sculpture and narrative of their sets over a versatile full- length record.

Here Puresque’s splay of influences comes to the fore, materialising in an album that is informed whilst questioning the conformities of its techno heritage. Balancing some of the more experimental pieces like “Einlauf” and “Tatort” with straighter dance material, including the now anthemic “001A”, or the incendiary “Säbelrasseln” and "Grenzwolf", Leitmotiv straddles both floor and listening contexts, appealing at once to DJs, lovers and aficionados of sound alike.

Leitmotiv is a dexterous and engaging display of electronic craftsmanship from an intelligent production outfit, and merited addition to Tresor’s respected discography. In their own words:
"Puresque intend upon cultivating an up-tempo and dirty sound culture that is anything but digital— analogue sound for analogue people.”

As the first DJ act to headline the world’s most famous arena, SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA have solidified their place in music history. Tinie Tempah), a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording, headlined massive events at Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas and Miami Music Week and sold over two million singles worldwide.

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA will also release new single ‘ANTIDOTE’ – a collaboration with Knife Party (side project of Pendulum's, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen) – on December 16, 2011. Hear Antidote’s exclusive first play on Radio One’s Annie Mac show

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA will complete a historic first when they headline a gargantuan 9 hour ‘One Night Stand’ show in front of 65,000 people at the Milton Keynes National Bowl on July 14th 2012. Finding the time amidst their hectic international touring schedules and extensive list of solo projects, Get Physical co-founders Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y are combining their prodigious talents once again on the follow-up to last year’s Donut with new collaborative single Home. Those that have heard the Body Language Vol.10 DJ mix will have caught a preview of this and know just how powerful it is. Imbued with the musical prowess and forward-thinking spirit of both parties, their experience shines through.

On Home, they build a fluid, jacking groove from the shifting timbres of the drum line that coalesce as the track progresses, masterfully deploying new percussive layers throughout the track. Tied together by the manipulated vocal chops, minimal chord progressions emerge from the drums skating across their surface effortlessly. Deftly bringing in a series of nuanced melodic motifs they allow the space to make way for the synthetic ray of colour that shoots through the track as it peaks.

M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade will be making the new version of Home available exclusively through their websites and Facebook pages from 5th December as a free download.

Watch out for the two remix packages which will be coming soon…

New Years Eve at Pacha NYC

CALLING ALL SUPERHEROES! New York City is in crisis. Scores of lame New Year’s Eve events have descended on the Big Apple, bringing bad music, cheap champagne, and amateur partiers to our fair streets. Who will save us from a mediocre and forgettable night out, and from starting 2012 on a whack foot?

Pacha is shining a beacon into the sky to summon our unmasked avenger. It’s a bird, it’s a bat – it’s none other than the king of the festivals, the master of merrymaking mayhem, the baron of beats, LAIDBACK LUKE!!!!! Luke is bringing his Super You&Me party to Pacha New York to ring in the New Year superhero-style, and you have to be there.

It’s not just a party, it’s an event, and Luke has enlisted a top squadron of fellow butt-kickers to launch the New Year proper: Dynamic duo Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, and bass warrior Sandro Silva.

With banging tracks like “We Are” and “Lift U Up,” Sunnery and Ryan have made their musical perspective clear. The pair has already played in front of the biggest crowds in the world, from the U.S. to Europe. Silva is a more familiar face to fans of Luke, serving as his faithful sidekick for several big shows. His hit “Epic” is a fave of guys like The Swedish House Mafia, Tiësto, and David Guetta.

Now, as for you: The dress code is clear. Luke invites you to don your favorite superhero, villain or vixen garb – the more creative the better. Think X-Men, Flash Gordon, Batman – or create your own outfit and give yourself the superhuman powers you've always wanted to have. Test your X-Ray goggles, take your jet engine boots for a test drive, and rescue your crush from the hands of an evil villain! Who says Halloween only comes once a year?

Remember: If you seek truth, justice, and the Laidback-ian way, Pacha is your secret lair this New Year’s Eve.
