Above & Beyond’s 2011 has been all about one thing – landmarks. In January they celebrated 10 years of their ever-growing Anjunabeats label, before March’s 200th single release on the imprint; the genre defying anthem and Beatport #1 hit “Rebound” by Arty & Mat Zo.

In April, Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki then embarked on their biggest ever tour of the US with a road blocked 22-date stretch, including two sold out shows at LA’s legendary Hollywood Palladium, with the first selling out in just 90 minutes - a new record for the legendary venue.

After seeing their “Sun & Moon” anthem playlisted by BBC Radio 1 and reach the top 15 of the Billboard Dance Charts in the US, the trio were ready to unleash their second artist album – Group Therapy. Earning them a cover star interview with DJ Magazine and described as “stadium dance with an incredibly personal feel” and “artist album of the year” in a Mixmag review, the string-laden album has been praised by critics and fans alike as a masterpiece in emotive, song-based electronic music.

In such a fast moving year, it seems fitting to close on a familiar totem pole in Above & Beyond’s annual calendar; their Anjunabeats Volume series. Capturing the sound of a label that has dominated Beatport charts and been supported this year by DJs as diverse as The Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and David Guetta, Anjunabeats Volume 9 offers 2xCDs of predominantly unreleased, exclusive tracks from artists like Arty, Mat Zo, Super8 & Tab, Andrew Bayer, Jaytech, Maor Levi and Above & Beyond themselves.

Modern, melodic and emotive, Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats sound remains unrestricted from one-dimensional genre restrictions. From the reflective, filmic pianos of Above & Beyond’s own unreleased “Tokyo” through hypnotic progressive sounds like Jaytech’s “Overdrive” to the synth-frenzy of Nitrous Oxide’s “iPeople” and the explosive funk-charged house fusion of Mat Zo and Arty’s brand new collaboration “Mozart”, Anjunabeats Volume 9 captures the full emotional intensity of the Above & Beyond DJ experience.

Also including Above & Beyond’s futuristic electro-edged anthem “Formula Rossa”, Anjunabeats Volume 9 covers the work of over 20 artists – a testament to the vibrant, tightly bound label family that Anjunabeats has evolved into.

Above & Beyond will be broadcasting the 400th episode of their Trance Around The World radio show via a special live eight hour broadcast from Beirut, Lebanon on 26th November - with guests Gareth Emery, Kyau & Albert, Mat Zo and Jaytech. For full info check out tatw400.com

FEDDE LE GRAND TO SUPPORT COLDPLAY IN CONCERT

Dutch DJ and producer Fedde le Grand (Put Your Hands Up For Detroit) has been confirmed as the official guest artist for Coldplay’s American Express ‘Unstaged’ concert at the Plaza del Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid on October 26th, following the global success of his remix of Paradise, the second single to be taken from Coldplay’s critically acclaimed fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto (Capitol Records).

The track, #1 on influential music download site Beatport – and le Grand’s fifth number 1 this year alone – premiered worldwide on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show and has taken international dance floors and radio stations by storm.

Le Grand, who rises 7 places in this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll to the #14 spot, will open the concert, which will then see Coldplay streamed live across the globe to millions via the power of YouTube and VEVO, filmed and directed by award-winning filmmaker and photographer Anton Corbijn (The American, Control). Fans in New York City will also be able to catch the performance on four large LED screens with in-built sound situated in Time Square.

For le Grand it is a dream come true. “I think this is the first time Coldplay has asked a DJ to join them for the support. It is a huge honor. But at the same time it feels like a logical next step. In my music I am always looking for exciting new connections. Different elements that come together and create something new. I feel you can hear that in the remix I did for Coldplay's "Paradise" as well.”

To view Coldplay Live In Madrid at Plaza del Toros de Las Ventas visit www.youtube.com from 4pm ET (9pm GMT) on Wednesday October 26th 2011.

Surkin to release debut artist album “USA” – a fantasy eighties soundscape

First single “Ultra Light” was recently selected Essential New Tune by BBC Radio One

Check out the full album teaser here

Marble is proud to announce the November 7th release of Surkin’s debut artist album, "USA."

Originally designed to be out on Institubes, Marble was the logical choice to release “USA” after the demise of the influential French label. It features 16 tracks, with guest vocals by Detroit’s Ann Saunderson (Inner City) and Chicago’s Kevin Irving (the voice of house blueprint “Move Your Body” by Marshall Jefferson); and two collaborations with friend and label mate Bobmo, whom with Surkin works as High Powered Boys.

It’s a joyous, juvenile, body-moving record, based on the idea of a radio station called Fireworks FM, set up in Silver Springs. The whole vibe exhales a fantasized eighties soundscape, infused with dance subgenres from that era but dramatically edited by Surkin’s own imaginary memories.

Club tracks galore, but also expect more melodic emotional mid-tempo cuts, but definitely not in a filler way. Mastery all over the place yet infused with a tremendous feeling of exuberance and freedom. Needless to say it’s an instant classic.

NYC DATES: DEC 2nd at WEBSTER HALL

SCUBA - DJ-KICKS

The one thing that Paul Rose, better known as Scuba, really doesn't want you to do is to try and pin him down. His roots are in London's dubstep scene, but he lives in the techno metropolis of Berlin. His music is located at some unspecified point between those two cities - bass heavy, sparse, full of atmosphere and with propulsive rhythms, but above all impossible to define. His label, Hotflush, is one of dubstep's spiritual homes, with releases by Distance, Benga and Mount Kimbie, but it also has that hard-to-categorize quality Warp had in the '90s. He is, in a word, a maverick.

"A tense, emotionally charged war of attrition - man Vs machine - on a distant planet scorched beyond human recognition... an enthrallingly cinematic voyage, thoroughly engrossing throughout." 8.5/10 DJmag

SBTRKT LIVE is coming back to the US in a couple of weeks!
Please let me know asap if you'd like to speak with him for advance pieces etc.

SBTRKT’s self-titled debut album was released by Young Turks on June 28th, to rave reviews and much excitement. After a hugely successful visit to New York in July, SBTRKT LIVE will be back for a tour starting on October 25th in Vancouver.

SBTRKT’s summer visit to New York resulted in the New York Times calling him "Crisp and forward looking” and his performance at PS1’s Warm-Up Series was legendary. His vocalist Sampha joined him and will also be by his side for these shows. Prior to his arrival in New York, he played in Toronto, where Drake jumped on stage to perform “Wildfire” with him and said he was “one of the best acts I’ve ever seen do it”!

tour dates:
10/25 Vancouver, BC Fortune Sound Club
10/26 Seattle, WA Neptune
10/27 San Francisco, CA 103 Harriet
10/28 Los Angeles, CA HARDfest
10/29 Asheville, NC Moogfest
10/30 Philadelphia, PA Union Transfer *
10/31 New York, NY Bowery Ballroom *
11/1 Brooklyn, NY Music Hall Of Williamsburg
11/2 Boston, MA Royale *
11/3 Toronto, ONT The Hoxton *
11/4 Chicago, IL Bottom Lounge
11/5 Denver, CO Bluebird
* w.AraabMUZIK

Through the years, and his development as an artist and producer in his own right, SBTRKT has worked with collaborators both sonic and visual to emphasize his ideas and vision. Vocalists on the album include the aforementioned Sampha, Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano, Jessie Ware and Roses Gabor. The performance and visual style has also become an essential part of this setup. Performing in his trademark tribal mask, watching SBTRKT translate his sound live is the opposite of what one would expect from the traditional producer/DJ.

He has done numerous high profile remixes for artists such as M.I.A., Gorillaz & Basement Jaxx, and has previously released 2 EPs but this is his first full-length album.
